Lead The first player to play on a team. The lead places and centers the mat, delivers and centers the jack, then delivers the first bowl of the end. At the conclusion of the end, the lead of the team that lost the end rakes in all the bowls and places them at a safe distance to the right of the mat.
Second The second player to play on a team of three or four. In a team of three, the second is sometimes called the Vice, or Vice Skip; may assume some of the duties of the skip, including measuring shots and keeping score.
Third In a team of four, the player who takes the mat after all the bowls of the second have been delivered; may assume some of the duties of the skip, including measuring shots and keeping score, in which case the third may be called Vice or Vice Skip.
Skip The last player to play on a team. The skip is in charge of the team and all players on the team must follow the skip’s instructions.
All positions are under the direction of the skip.
